The castle's history dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was built as a turreted fortress and later became a stronghold of the Monaldeschi della Cervara family. Over the centuries, the castle underwent several transformations. In the 16th century, under Sforza Monaldeschi, it was transformed into a Renaissance residence. However, it was in the 19th century that the castle reached its current configuration, when it was purchased by Count Edward Cahen d'Anvers. To him we owe the start of major renovation and extension work, commissioned to the architect Giuseppe Partini and the French gardeners Henri and Achille Duchêne, who also took care of the garden that still enhances its charm today.
Nineteenth-century transformations reworked the medieval architecture, enriching it with new elements and refined interior decoration. The Torre Alfina Castle, thanks to its combination of history, art and nature, is a unique jewel in the panorama of Italian historical residences.
Torre Alfina is a small medieval village, a hamlet of Acquapendente in the province of Viterbo, located on the northern edge of the Alfina plateau. It is known for its imposing castle, a historical residence of great value. The village is characterised by narrow streets and stone houses surrounding the castle, offering a suggestive view of the surrounding valley.
Tuscia is a historic region encompassing parts of Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany, known for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
